Hundreds of years ago it was discovered that breast milk cured all disease. Not all mind you, but only that from a certain blood line. Once that was discovered all the women were rounded up. Since Incest was a huge no no, they decided that the best way to impregnate the women and keep the blood-line pure was to artificially inseminate them with synthetic sperm copied from the males in that same bloodline. One by one all the females were made pregnant, because once pregnant there could be milk after the offspring were born.
Over the course of a century the female stock became less viable due to them having litter after litter. It was decided that instead of allowing them to lead lives within the community, they would be placed in a form of stasis. Their bodies would be able to perform the function of breeding and lactating but they would show no ill effects. If a female was born they were raised apart from the rest of society in what came to be known as Abby Stables. They would be kept healthy, and treated like royalty.
When they came of age they too would enter Stasis as their Mothers had done so long ago. The cycle would continue on for ages. The communities were kept healthy, there was no addiction, no heart disease, nor death. It came to pass that because of this the planet was becoming too crowded to be able to feed the masses. Another solution was then engineered to handle the over crowding, but that is a whole different type of story.
